Austin Ranz, a Partner at Brigadier Consulting Group, specializes in the transportation and energy industries. His experience includes work in strategy, marketing, litigation support, and policy analysis.
Samples of his project work include:
- Evaluated the potential financial impacts and legal consequences for a Class I Railroad concerned about proposed federal legislation designed to enforce antitrust regulation. The project enhanced the railroad's understanding of its exposure to captive shippers, evaluated customer relationships at vulnerable locations, and yielded greater insight into regulatory costing mechanisms.
- Modeled regional electricity dispatch for a Coal Marketing Department with sensitivity for potential climate legislation, fuel prices, and transportation rates. The analysis succeeded in identifying at risk coal plants and proposing future changes to ensure longevity. The model was also used to attract new utility customers via alternative fuel sourcing options.
- Developed major initiatives for a corporate “green” strategy for the CEO of a major U.S. railroad. The strategies included improving service in short haul intermodal lanes to shift market share from trucking to rail, optimizing network efficiency through key trackage rights agreements, and electrifying rail corridors to reduce diesel consumption.
- Analyzed proposed federal legislation which would mandate shifting 10% of U.S. freight volumes off highways by 2020. The project provided insight into specific lanes where high intermodal growth was likely to occur, as well as the type and quantity of capital investment required by the railroad industry to meet capacity expansions.
Prior to joining Brigadier, Mr. Ranz was an associate at Norbridge, Inc. He received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University and is a member of Sigma Xi Honor Society.
